What We've Been Up To Lately
HAMPTON UNIVERSITY UPWARD BOUND VIRTUAL SENIOR CELEBRATIONOn June 14, 2021, I was privileged to deliver the keynote address for the Hampton University Virtual Senior Celebration to commemorate the many achievements of the twenty-six Upward Bound program participants who earned their secondary diplomas from An Achievable Dream High School, Denbigh High School, Heritage High School, and Warwick High School in Newport News, and Bethel High School in Hampton City Schools.
I continue to be humbled by the achievements of our incredible graduates, each of whom has overcome significant challenges to reach this milestone. They are remarkable students who will enter the workforce, enlist in the armed services, and matriculate immediately to four year universities in the Fall of 2021. They were student government leaders, captains of their respective athletic teams, and volunteers throughout the community. Five years ago, I drafted the TRIO proposal to the Department of Education to reconstitute the Upward Bound program after a five year hiatus. Since receiving funding for the program, the respective Directors of the program have stewarded the initiative with excellence. This year's graduates represent the initial freshmen cohort who began in the program. I could not be prouder of their achievements to date and look forward to their many accomplishments going forward. |

TUTORING / MENTORING INITIATIVEMikael Davis Consulting and TeachersBox are proud to have partnered with the Shutdown 757 Falcons from 2017 - 2020 to create a series of evidence-based academic interventions, to include a weekly Tutoring and Mentoring program and college tours to optimize student achievement among the organization’s approximate two hundred fifty (250) student athletes.
According to Darreous Moody, Shutdown 757’s former Executive Director of Operations, “We were really excited to offer this suite of academic services to our football and cheer program participants. Because we recognized that our student-athletes are the future, our aim was to give every child as many opportunities to be successful in life as we could. To that end, we instituted a tutoring program when we launched Shutdown in 2016 and we were excited to partner with Mikael Davis Consulting and TeachersBox to ensure that each of our cheerleaders and football players reached their full potential, both on and off the field of play.” |
VAEOPP WEBSITEMikael Davis Consulting partnered with SparkDawn Media to build the initial website for the Virginia Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel. That site served as the blueprint and a great deal of the content for the current site.

A PHI A WEBSITEMD Consulting built a website for the Kappa Pi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity, Inc., to highlight the service initiatives that the undergraduate chapter is engaged in to improve college access for low income students in Williamsburg and to equip the chapter to build a stronger bond between its members and alumni brothers.
