DR. SHANICE NAKADIA COX, UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO RESIDENT
DR. SHANICE NAKADIA COX, A NEW RESIDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO, HAS BEEN A MIKAEL DAVIS CONSULTING CLIENT SINCE SHE SOLICITED OUR REVIEW AND FEEDBACK FOR HER AAMCAS PRIMARY AND SECONDARY APPLICATION PROMPTS AS A MASTER OF MEDICAL SCIENCE STUDENT AT HAMPTON UNIVERSITY. Having served as a student researcher in the Cancer Neurocognitive Translational Research Lab focusing on the underlying mechanisms of treatment efforts to arrest neurocognitive dysfunction, increase cancer survivorship, and improve patients’ quality of life, Ms. Cox sought our coaching during her tenure as the Graduate Assistant for Post-Baccalaureate Opportunities for the Ronald McNair Scholars program, where she coordinated intrusive advising workshops to increase degree completion and graduate school enrollment rates among low-income, first-generation college students. During several workshop sessions, we equipped Ms. Cox and two of her classmates to draft more targeted, specific responses to myriad essay prompts. We encouraged Shanice to better communicate her unique voice by forcing her to more effectively organize her experiences into targeted themes that clearly communicated the motivations and desired outcomes of her medical education. As a result, Ms. Cox earned acceptance and full funding to the Texas Christian University and University of North Texas Health Science Center School of Medicine.
Subsequently, Shanice utilized our Career Documentation Service to provide feedback on several scholarship applications, to include the Tylenol Futures scholarship, the NMF Dr. Prentiss Taylor Scholarship, the NTLPA scholarship, the Online Med MD scholarship, the American College of Surgeons Symposium, the Johnson & Johnson NMF scholarship, the Kirsch Fellowship Scholarship renewal application, the NMF Health Equity Scholarship, and the Urology Residency Application. Having researched prenatal health disparities in Tarrant County, TX, Ms. Cox aspires to practice evidence-based medicine in underserved communities, improving the life prospects for individuals who could not otherwise afford quality health care. She is doing just that as a resident at the University of New Mexico.
Today, Mikael Davis Consulting is supporting Ms. Cox's application for an NBME Strategic Scholars Grant to improve educational practice and outcomes for initially unmatched medical school graduates. We fully expect Dr. Cox to receive the requisite funding to make historic improvements to best practice in medical education.

Mikael DAvis Consulting HAS SUPPORTED MY MEDICAL EDUCATION JOURNEY SINCE I WAS A GRADUATE ASSISTANT AT HAMPTON UNIVERSITY.
